A Man of No Importance

The phrase ‘a man of no importance’ may sound new to many of us. Possibly, most people find out that they have never heard such a phrase or observed a similar concept before in their lives. However, the positive thing is that the uniqueness of this topic would definitely enhance the reader’s interest and joy of reading. It is so because it is easy to observe and accept the importance of someone or something but, it is very difficult to shift our focus towards something that is not important or worth noticing.

Every individual wants to look forward and aim to invest time and energy into things that can give him valuable output. ‘A man of no importance’ accounts for an individual who does nothing at all and spends his time being idle all day. Similarly, this phrase also points out individuals who do not make maximum use of their potential or perform their tasks apathetically. The relationship between such individuals and various segments of society describes how they adversely affect the social order.

A Man of No Importance Versus Educational Institutions

It is said that ‘the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow’. Therefore, these starlets of a nation must get good guidance and inspiration from their very early age. They can seek life-changing inspiration from schools in the form of their teachers or principal. Nonetheless, the administration is also equally important when it comes to imparting good values among children. But what if the teachers and other staff at an educational institution are not competent.

In such a situation, unfortunately, the children will observe the wrong examples around them. Such examples of ‘man of no importance’ will not only deprive the students of good figures but will also put their future and career at risk. For instance, if teachers will not take interest in teaching their students, the students will neither be able to learn that particular subject nor will take interest in studying ever.

Such idle individuals will also miss the wonderful opportunity to shape the leaders of tomorrow. They will deprive young minds of developing primary ideas about the society they are living in. They will not be able to focus on the personality development, character development, and polishing creativity of children. Being an educationist is a job that demands a sense of responsibility however, such ‘men of no importance’ just put the career of students and country at stake.

A Man of No Importance Versus Government Institutions

Government employees account for individuals who work in the institutions run by the government of the state. Or, in simple words, they can be referred to as individuals who work in the public sector. In developing countries like Pakistan, it has been observed that a certain percentage of such employees do not take interest in their work because they already have job security. This sense of security transforms them into ‘man of no importance.

Such individuals can bring serious harm to the departments and the name of the organization. The lacking sense of responsibility of few employees makes the entire nation pay for it.  The irresponsible and late decision-making by few such individuals can bring a huge financial crisis to the entire country. For example, if the country needs to import any certain item and the government does not pay attention to the matter, after some time, the government will be forced to purchase the same item at a high price.

It can also be seen in the context of disaster management. The government already knows that which natural disasters can hit the country during which seasons. However, if they do not prepare before the disaster, it will result in more causalities and property damage. It is rightly said that a stitch in time, saves nine. Unfortunately, if key seats get filled by non-serious people, the country and nation will only suffer and pay the price of such hiring.

A Man of No importance Versus Hospitals

The ‘man of no importance’ becomes riskier if he has to work in hospitals. It is so because the hospital staff has to deal with matters relating to life and death. The staff at hospitals consists of several departments and designations. Doctors are responsible for providing medical treatment, nurses provide continuous care, administrative and support staff are responsible for making sure the hospital runs smoothly while allied health professionals play their role in diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

Hospitals are also supposed to provide healthcare 24*7. They do not get holidays. Similarly, sometimes, doctors and nurses have to work longer and extend their shifts. Therefore, this job demands responsibility and empathy. One cannot even imagine that a hospital can run if its staff likes to push its responsibilities under the carpet. The doctors and other staff at the hospital cannot do justice to their jobs if they like to sit idle or lack the passion to serve humanity.

The presence of such individuals does not only affect the patients but also the reputation of the hospital and overall society. Similarly, it also deprives hardworking and responsible individuals of great opportunities because seats are filled with non-serious individuals. Although, whenever the employer feels that a certain staff member is not serious regarding his job, they take action. Resultantly, either the employee becomes careful or he gets replaced. However, it takes time which provides maximum time to ‘men of no importance’ to bring harm to their workplaces.

A Man of No Importance Versus Private Sector

It is already being debated if the public sector is better or the private sector. People make comparisons between the growth opportunities, pay packages, and environments of both these sectors while carrying out their debate. It has been observed that the private sector provides more opportunities for an employee to excel. The private sector is beneficial for the employees in multiple ways. They get handsome salaries and more learning opportunities. Their talent gets polished under the increased competition and pressure.

It is not easy for any individual to survive in such a competitive environment if he is not hardworking and honest towards his responsibilities. A man of no importance may get an opportunity, but he shall not be able to continue his job or grow in his field unless he changes his attitude. Although in various workspaces around us, we observe several individuals who look busy but do nothing. Such individuals are of no importance when it comes to bringing a good name or benefit to the organization and therefore, they do not have any value or say in their association.

A Man of No Importance Versus Group Projects

It is very common these days to work in groups. Be it a group of students, professionals or volunteers, etc. People tend to make groups to complete the task because it helps them dividing responsibilities and reducing the workload. However, group work can only prove to be beneficial if all the group members put equal effort and take interest in the activities. However, unfortunately, it is not the case always.

Sometimes, over a period of time, the group finds out that one of their teammates is a man of no importance to the group. Such individuals are easy to identify because they do not show any output, do not take an interest, rely on others, and are also not dependable. They lack the sense of being a teammate and hence, do not contribute towards collective success. Resultantly, they are removed from the group. Even if they are not removed, their groupmates know the fact that this individual is not dependable, and hence, they get deprived of respect and value.

Conclusion

An individual wins this title of a man of no importance’ only when he is assigned various responsibilities socially, culturally, religiously, and morally and he fails to realize his needed passion and the importance of his responsibilities. Like any other habit, an individual starts showing this attitude from his home. However, if he is not provided with proper guidance on time, he may deviate from the right path. This may further lead to increased challenges and disbalance in society.
